Heart Club Nepal (HCN) was established in 1997 (2054 BS) as a non-governmental organization dedicated to the prevention of Cardiovascular Diseases (CVD). For over 28 years, HCN has served as a vital community bridge as the common platform of the likeminded individuals, translating clinical medical knowledge into accessible public health practices through a structured, year-round program of awareness, advocacy and patient support.
HCN is a humble social institution that provides a space to discuss and identify commonly applicable explanationsto the individuals, families and communities that are somehow connected to CVD and NCD. It has almost 200 members of three categories.
The origin
HCN was founded on the premise that while diseases like cancer often receive immediate social alarm, heart disease – the world’s leading cause of death – is taken lightly. HCN was born to change the public mindset: to show that through improved lifestyle, proper medicine, and mutual support, the progression of heart disease can be slowed. It is a common platform of heart patients.
Core Mission
Its primary activities include:
- Public Awareness and Interaction: HCN hosts monthly interaction programs led by medical specialists to discuss topics such as hypertension, diabetes management, seasonal heart health protection and on many other topics that are directly or indirectly related “The Healthy Heart”.
- Preventive Outreach: Each year, the club distributes thousands of educational pamphlets detailing symptoms and preventive measures for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) on rheumatic heart disease, stroke etc.
- Student and Youth Advocacy: HCN engages younger generations through school-level quiz competitions and interactive sessions designed to foster early-age health literacy. This initiation is being continued in collaboration with Rotary Club of Patan.
- Global Health Observances: The club is also a co-organizer for international awareness days, including World Heart Day, World Diabetes Day,and World Cancer Day, World No-Tobacco Day etc. often conducting community rallies and diagnostic camps.
- Blood Donation Advocacy: The club provides financial and logistical support to BLODAN (Blood Donor Association Nepal) for mobile blood collection drives throughout the Kathmandu Valley. This support mission is regarded as a motivational and humble support to augment the blood donation mission of the nation.
- Direct Patient Support: Reflecting its public mission, HCN provides financial and medical assistance to several individuals in critical condition (poor and from disadvantaged communities) including supporting cancer patients and individuals requiring heart-related medication.
- Health Camps: An initiativefor awareness as well asinvestigativesupportis being organized in the form of Health Camps directly and/or in collaboration with other likeminded agencies.
Operating in close collaboration with the Nepal Heart Foundation (NHF), particularly its Lalitpur branch, HCN focuses on a holistic approach to heart health (as mentioned above and many more).
Support to the Patient on rehabilitation
HCN is recognized as a partner in the NHF’s national rehabilitation programs, which are often the least addressed aspect of cardiac care in Nepal. The club provides essential peer-support platforms where patients who have undergone heart surgeries or major interventions can share experiences and receive counseling on lifestyle management to ensure long-term recovery.
Institutional Legacy and Publication
HCN’s organizational transparency and awarenessare reflected in its annual publication, “Hridayako Aawaj” (ह्रिदयको आवाज) on its Annual General Meeting (AGM). This souvenir serves as an essential archive of its financial reports, activity calendars, and specialized articles contributed by leading medical professionals.
Currently, Heart Club Nepal is undergoing a strategic phase of modernization, which includes updating its founding constitution and pursuing branch expansion initiatives to extend its grassroots heart-health advocacy across a wider national network. It is clear that Heart Club Nepal plays a unique and vital role by focusing on the often-overlooked rehabilitation and peer support. Combining its history from 1997,its modern-day calendar (like the school quizzes, senior home visits, honoring the elders affected by CVD or NCD, counselling and financial support to the needy ones etc.) creates a strong picture of a dedicated, enthusiastic and humble organization.
We wish to reach out to as many individuals as possible. Hence, we invite all to be part of this mission by joining this humble-platform
